|From the New York Times bestselling author of Rumor Has It and the Lucky Harbor series comes the story of a woman whose world is turned upside down by one night's torrid fling...
Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.
Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans...
I have to start by saying I loved Wyatt, which shouldn’t be shocking because Jill Shalvis always gives us lovable heroes. He’s a vet who’s adorable, sweet and sexy. Whether he’s making quirky shirts look hot or his love of animals (he’s actually both an animal whisperer…and woman whisperer), he’s hard to resist. He currently lives with his two nosy sisters but he has a thing about not wanting to ask someone to stay or stick around thanks to a bad experience with a past girlfriend and as a result, he doesn’t make his feelings clear to Emily as they get closer and closer.
Emily is working with Wyatt at a vet intern and has always been taking care of everyone else but herself and her wants and needs. She has her life mapped out with “the plan” and it didn’t include working for a year in a vet’s office in Idaho. She wanted to stay in posh California, being a vet to the stars. But she’s there with her sister to fulfill a scholarship obligation and she’s counting down the days until she can leave. She had a one night stand with Wyatt at a vet conference and is shocked when she finds out she’ll be working with him – what are the chances?! And now they’re working side by side with all this sparkage between for the next year.
I did find Emily and all her plans to be a bit annoying, especially toward the end. Wyatt and Emily suffered from lack of communication and it’s the wedge that attempts to drive them apart. I wanted to yell at Emily to “just ASK him how he feels, don’t wait for him to tell you!!” For some reason, even though both Wyatt and Emily made some communications mistakes, I found it easier to hate on Emily for it rather than Wyatt. I think it was his sexy t-shirts and glasses. Relationship woes aside, they have sexy chemistry and I enjoyed them together on page.
As far as supporting characters go, I really liked the sisters on both sides. Wyatt’s are hilarious, especially Darcy and I want to know what’s up with her and her hot physical therapist AJ. I also want to know about the accident that’s forced Darcy into PT in the first place. Hopefully her story is next.
With a Shalvis book, especially in her Animal Magnetism series, you kind of know what to expect going in and Then Came You delivers a light-hearted, fun romance. It’s a nice summer read.
